Richmond ABCs - Letter D

Richmond has so many things to do and activities to offer. Sometimes you get stuck in a rut and forget about what else is out there.

To help you not miss out on local hot spots we have compiled a list starting with each letter of the alphabet to hopefully kick-start some activity for you of things to do around town. This week we focus on the letter D, here we go!

Dogwood Dell Amphitheater

Dogwood Dell is a 2,400-seat amphitheater located in Byrd Park. Since 1956, it’s hosted the Festival of Arts, a summer-long celebration of art, concerts, dance, and theatrical productions. The summer schedule is out, so don’t miss out on attending an iconic summer activity of RVA.

The Diamond

Take me out to the ballgame!

In 1984, construction began for The Diamond, which replaced the demolished Parker Field, which was built in 1934, originally a part of the fairground, and later converted to baseball in 1954. From 1985 to 2008 it was the home of the Richmond Braves.

Now the home of the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Diamond is a staple on Arthur Ashe Boulevard. And summer is a great time to catch a baseball game. Check out the schedule and get tickets here: https://www.milb.com/richmond

Dorey Park

Encompassing 400 acres, Dorey Park is the largest park in Henrico County. Originally the Dorey family homestead consisted of a farmhouse, dairy barn, bunkhouse, tenant farmer house, chicken house, springhouse, silos, and a small barn. The Dorey family worked the dairy farm until 1966.

In 1984, Henrico County opened the park and continued renovations. The park now features multipurpose fields, softball and baseball fields, tennis courts, trails, a recreation center, playgrounds, picnic shelters, an 18-hole disc golf course, and a dog park.

Also, it hosts the Dorey Park Farmers Market on Saturday mornings from June to October. You can learn more about the farmer’s market here: https://www.doreyparkfarmersmarket.org/

Drive-In Theater

A short drive from Richmond, the Goochland Drive-In Theater consists of an outdoor movie screen showing double features with fire pits, a snack bar, and a playground.

You must purchase your tickets before you go, so check out their website for the schedule and more: https://www.goochlanddriveintheater.com/

The Daily Kitchen & Bar

With two locations, Short Pump and Carytown, The Daily Kitchen and Bar is a great place if you are looking for organic, all-natural, local, and sustainable ingredients. Plus, if the weather is nice they offer patio seating.

And on Saturdays and Sundays, they serve a special brunch menu. To check out the menu and locations, visit their website: https://thedailykitchenandbar.com/

Downtown Richmond

Ok, this one might be a little generic, but Downtown Richmond has a lot to offer. With 300+ restaurants and shops, 150+ murals and public street art, 70+ historic attractions, and riverfront parks, you are bound to find something you enjoy. Venture Richmond has put together a great guide to discovering all the hot spots from art to outdoor activities.

Keep exploring RVA

I hope this list sparked your interest to explore our unique city! Now, go out and try something new in Richmond. And I would love to hear about your adventures.
