Richmond ABCs - Letter A
Richmond has a lot of fun things to do and restaurants to try, but it’s easy to find yourself in a comfortable repetitive rhythm. To encourage us to try new activities and not get in a rut of doing the same thing every hangout, our friends presented a fun idea to us. They suggested that we do ABC dates.
What are ABC dates?
So, here’s how it works. One couple plans an activity that starts with the letter A and surprises the second couple. Then the second couple plans the activity for letter B and surprises the first couple. And then you just go back and forth going through the alphabet. This could also work for a group of friends, it doesn’t have to be double dates!
And you can take your time going through the alphabet. We started back in 2017 before kiddos and are still making our way through the alphabet with our friends.
But this is a fun way to shake things up! And Richmond has so many fun things to do.

So, I am starting a Richmond ABCs series, where I will be sharing fun locations and activities in Richmond alphabetically. Because sometimes you just get stuck in a rut and can’t think of something to do. I want you to enjoy the city you call home! So, here we go!
Activities that start with A in Richmond
Archery
From beginners to advanced, groups or just for fun, the Virginia Archery Center is located in Goochland. And they want you to give archery a shot!
Alamo BBQ
This local favorite is in the bustling neighborhood of Church Hill and provides all of your BBQ classics as well as providing catering options for events. This place can get crowded! But be sure and try their jalapeno mac and cheese, it is worth the wait! For address, hours and menu visit their website.
Arcade
The Circuit Arcade Bar is located in Scott’s Addition. It features 80+ retro and modern video games, sporting games, skeeball, and pinball machines. Plus, it offers unique drinks and snacks to quench your thirst and appetite while you play.
Art Works
If you are looking to flex your artistic muscle, Art Works is a contemporary art center in the Manchester district of RVA. It is a great place to make art, buy art, hold an event, or be creative! Check out their website for exhibits and a calendar of events.
Azzurro
This restaurant located on River Road offers an elevated Italian cuisine and a global wine list. Azzurro’s has a softly-lit patio or inside seating near the comfort of a crackling fireplace. A nice choice for celebrating a special occasion.
Agecroft Hall & Gardens
Agecroft Hall is a 16th-century gem in central Virginia. In 1925 it was moved from England and rebuilt on the banks of the James River. The Tudor-style home and grounds have been preserved to engage, educate, and entertain visitors of all ages.
